Calling the Dragons Home
Kathleen Tracy dives deep on this lush, poetic offering. Original instrumentation includes Kathleen on ukelele and charango, Jami Seiber on cello and Linda Severt on percussion, creating a rich and unique sonic tapestry, with Kathleen’s honest and intimate vocals right down the middle. Or in the case of “When I Was a Horse,” soaring into the stratosphere when she incorporates overtone singing into the arrangement.
The title song "Calling the Dragons Home" is a beautiful and haunting melding of music and lyrics to create a strikingly unique take on the age-old break-up song. “Busy Little Monkey” conveys the ambivalence of motherhood, “the most healing and humiliating experience of my life so far.”
“Most of these lyrics started out as conversations with myself during a really wrenching time in my life, as a way of expanding the container of my experience,” she says. “They seem to be useful songs for other people as well, which is deeply gratifying.”
These are songs for grown-ups, songs about loss, vulnerability, insight and transformation.
So Bodaciously
Seattle based singer/songwriters Kathleen and Linda have been songwriting buddies since the late 90's, when they hooked up with with Cyd Smith (another great songwriter) to form the the folk rock group The Modern Fabrics. The group disbanded after a couple of years, and after pursuing outside projects for a time, Linda and Kathleen started playing together again as a duo. This CD is a most bodacious dozen of the songs and arrangements that came together during that period.
"There's everything from Hindu to hillbilly on this one, and it totally rocks," says diva Laura Love.
